Dear Edinburgh, I adore you.

Dear Edinburgh, I adore you.

I’ll be honest, I’ve been trying to get some of my fanart on the official Doctor Who Tumblr since they started it a month ago. Because how cool would that be? The irony is today they finally re-blogged a post, but from a blog I started on April 20th called Found the TARDIS. The basic premise is a landscape photography blog meets Doctor Who. So figured I should share it here if anyone is interested. Come along…

10 Ways to Be Happier According to Doctor Who (Part 2)

10. Recognize that everything changes
Question: How many Doctor Who fans does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer: Change?!

Stereotypically, Doctor Who fans do not take to change well. Which is interesting if you consider just how much the show is seeped in that very concept. The Doctor differs from his previous form after each regeneration, remaining the same man, but with a different face, quirks, catch-phrases and fashion sense. His companions are always shuffling around as he loses some and gains others – sometimes for a single episode. And most importantly, with a show based on traveling through time and space, each episode is set in a different time and a different location. (Although I will concede that the Doctor spends a lot of time in 21st century England. The writers claim this keeps the audience relating to the show.)

For the most part, as humans, we want to be safe and comfortable. Change is often feared because it threatens or up-heaves our sense of security by making us face the unknown. We watch as good things turn sour, perfectly laid plans are destroyed, bridges are mended or situations work out better than planned. All of this sometimes completely out of our control. Instead of stressing or fearing change, it should be embraced – both the changes you control and undertake yourself as well as those that happen outside your influence. By adjusting their perspective towards change, a person can remain flexible and take advantage of a situation. This also means that good moments in life can be appreciated more with the acknowledgment that they may not always stay that way. The rougher spots too, are easier to go through, knowing at some point the situation will eventually turn around.

Sarah Jane: “The universe has to move forward. Pain and loss, they define us as much as happiness or love. Whether it’s a world or a relationship, everything has its time. And everything ends.”

Part 2 is finally up! I’ve been working on this for awhile now, but I just write terribly slow. Please enjoy and, as always, thank you for reading!

4. Have fun
Adelaide: “State your name, rank and intention.”
The Doctor: “The Doctor, doctor, fun.”

At the end of the day, the Doctor is merely a traveler out enjoying himself as he explores, learns and meets new life. Sure he gets caught up in all these crazy life threatening adventures then ends up saving the universe for the umpteenth time, but he really is, mostly, just a tourist. He doesn’t even have a set agenda or plan, preferring to remain open to opportunities as they come his way. And as he makes the best of these situations and challenges, his unabashed glee and childlike wonder is refreshing. The Doctor’s mentality isn’t ‘glass half full,” his cup is spilling over the top.

Jethro: “But ever since all the trouble started, you’ve been loving it.”
Professor Hobbes: “It has to be said you do seem to have a certain… glee.”
The Doctor: “Alright, I’m interested. Yes, I can’t help it. ‘Cause whatever’s inside her is brand new and that’s fascinating.”

I’m really not a writer, but I thought this would be a fun idea. Part 2 will be up next week sometime when I recover from writing this section.

It reads: “The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant.” -The Doctor, from Vincent & the Doctor

It’s been done before, I know. I know. But how hilarious, right? I mean weird, strange, odd, maybe even creepy… but hilarious. And this is why I’m not allowed to joke about ideas. I end up drawing them.
